Deciding on a Species to Conserve

The insurance firm has decided to focus on conserving the cheetah where they are most populous: Kenya and Tanzania. Cheetah are captured or poached (killed) in those countries for the following reasons: (a) cheetah cubs are sold to private parties desiring an exotic pet; (b) cheetah pelts and body parts are sold to private parties for decoration and for supposed aphrodisiac properties; (c) cheetahs are shot to protec livestock. Customers for these cheetah products reside in several different countries. The firm reached this decision in-part because much of the trafficking in cheetah and their body parts is international wherein shipments originate in Kenya or Tanzania and have final delivery locations in all over the world. Such international trafficking gives the firm's fraud investigation department opportunities to gather intelligence on shipments and the criminals managing those shipments from many sources including the internet and mobile phone networks.
